 What is GENERAL Business Management & Enterprise all about?

The Business Management and Enterprise General course focuses on establishing and operating a small business in Australia and aims to provide students with an understanding of the knowledge and skills of the processes and procedures required for generating business ideas and turning them into a viable business venture. Students engage in the running of a small business, or participate in business simulations, to develop practical business skills and to develop financial and business literacy. The course equips students to participate proactively in the world of business, behave responsibly and demonstrate integrity in business activities.

 

Who should select these units in Year 11?

Students who enjoy learning about small business practises and would like to develop skills that would benefit them should they wish to form their own small business.

 

Pathway

Successfully completion of these units will enable students to progress into Business Management & Enterprise – General in Year 12.

To provide for different learning styles a variety of assessment tasks are used. For each course of study tasks are selected from:

What is GENERAL Business Management & Enterprise all about?

The Business Management and Enterprise General course gives students the opportunity to understand how vital business is to individuals and society, and how it impacts on many aspects of our lives. Students investigate the features of successful marketing campaigns and report on how businesses succeed and prosper through methods, such as expansion in products, market share or diversification. Students explore: how the marketing plan contributes to the overall business plan; issues in the business environment, including the importance of intellectual property in protecting business ideas; and the significance of employee motivation.

Who should select these units in Year 12?

An understanding of the Year 11 content is assumed knowledge for students in Year 12. It is recommended, however not compulsory, that students studying Unit 3 and Unit 4 have completed Unit 1 and Unit 2.

  • Management – Marketing strategies, business plans, financial reports, financial & non-financial indicators
  • People – Leadership styles and motivational theories and strategies
