Bring your own device
We encourage students to bring their own device.
What mobile device can I purchase?
- Any mobile device of your choice: e.g. tablet, laptop, netbook, 2 in 1 laptop (tablet and laptop combo).
- Running any platform you desire, e.g. Android, MacOS, Windows, etc.
- Mobile phone screens are too small and hence are not considered useful in a classroom setting. Screen size must be a minimum of 8-10”
Software required
- Platform / Operating System = any. E.g. Android, MacOS, Windows, etc.
- MS Office – available free to all EGC students.
- The Adobe suite – available free to eligible students.
- Antivirus / Anti-malware – we suggest you download the Microsoft Defender Antivirus
- Adobe Acrobat Reader – this is available free from https://get.adobe.com/reader/ Technical Assistance offered at EGC
Student workshops for: o Connecting their own device to our wireless network o Access the EGC printers o How to install software required (listed above) o Accessing student email and Connect o Basic technology literacy. For example; saving work, submitting work.
Security and Use
- All devices and equipment brought to school are AT YOUR OWN RISK. If lost or stolen, you will need to ensure it is covered under your own insurance. Some contents insurance policies cater for this.
- Students are not permitted to unplug EGC equipment to charge their BYOD.
- Charging at power points across the school is AT YOUR OWN RISK.
- Students should endeavour to come to school with their device already fully charged.
- All students and parents must sign the Acceptable Computer User Agreement before being granted Department Online Services access.
- It is a privilege not a right to use devices in class. Students must follow teacher’s instructions regarding BYO Device use. If a device is being used inappropriately or against teacher instructions, you will be asked to put it into your bag.
Storage and safety of your device is AT YOUR OWN RISK this includes:
- Physical storage and carrying of device
- Anti-virus software
