Applied Information Technology ATAR


What is ATAR Applied Information Technology all about?

The Applied Information Technology ATAR course provides students with the knowledge and skills to use a range of computer hardware and software to create, manipulate and communicate information in an effective, responsible and informed manner. Students develop an understanding of computer systems; the management of data; and the use a variety of software applications to investigate, design, construct and evaluate digital products and digital solutions. Students investigate client-driven issues and challenges, devise solutions, produce models or prototypes and then evaluate and refine the developed digital product and solution.

 

Who should select these units in Year 11?

Students who enjoy learning about all things related to technology and would like to develop theirs skills in the area.

Students wanting to select Applied Information Technology – ATAR should have successfully passed the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) in Year 10 or prequalified by achieving Band 8 or higher in the Year 9 NAPLAN.

 

Pathway

The course offers pathways to further studies and a range of technology-based careers, and a set of skills that equip students for the 21st century and give them an appreciation of the impact of information technology on society. Should students successfully complete this course, they will be able to enrol into Applied Information Technology – ATAR Year 12.

What is ATAR Applied Information Technology all about?

In the Applied Information Technology ATAR course, students create solutions that consider social and environmental factors when operating digital systems with digital information. They develop an understanding of the characteristics of data, digital systems, audiences and procedures. They apply this when they investigate, communicate and create purpose‐designed digital solutions. Students learn to formulate problems, logically organise and analyse data and represent it in abstract forms. Students decide the best combinations of data, procedures and human and physical resources to generate efficient and effective digital solutions.

Who should select these units in Year 12?

Students who enjoy learning about all things related to technology and would like to develop theirs skills in the area.

It is heavily recommended, that students studying Unit 3 and Unit 4 have completed Unit 1 and Unit 2.
