What is Design and Technology Wood all about?

In this course you will learn how to safely use power tools and woodworking machine tools which are used in industry. General Materials Design and Technology Wood is a practical subject designed to give students the opportunity to experience aspects of designing, construction, furniture making, appraising and marketing wooden projects of all descriptions. This course will focus on the application of technology in the woodworking industry.

  • You have an interest in fabrication/manufacturing.
  • You enjoy practical subjects.
  • You have some experience working with timber and want to learn more about how to design and make projects.
  • You have successfully completed General Material Design and Technology Wood Units 1 and 2.

 

Pathway

Upon successful completion of these units, students will have practical skills that are useful in any aspect of the construction industry. This course exposes students to a range of skills that may lead them to finding employment in the furniture, cabinet making, furniture design, wood machining, joinery, shop fitting and building industries.
